Description: Volunteering with SCAFT (Supporting Carers And Families Together) is an opportunity to have some fun, whilst making a positive contribution to the lives of Young Carers. You will be supporting the Young Carers Support Worker to present a range of activities including arts, crafts, games/sports and cooking, at group/club evenings with Young Carers in Rochford or Rayleigh.
Organisation Description: We are a local Charity, working primarily across the Rochford and Rayleigh areas, providing support to children who are caring for someone within the family home due to long term illness or disability. We aim to relieve the social, emotional, mental, physical and educational needs of those often isolated or disadvantaged by their caring responsibilities. We do this through the provision of a range of services, person and group centered interventions, advice, guidance and sign-posting to other services as appropriate.
The Group Sessions are held at:
Rochford – Waterman School
Secondary Groups meet on alternate Wednesdays 4.30pm – 7.30pm (ages 11 – 18yrs)
Primary Groups meet on alternate Mondays 4.30pm – 7.30pm (ages 6 – 11yrs)
Rayleigh – St Michael’s Church Hall
Secondary groups meet on alternate Mondays 4.30pm – 7.30pm (ages 11 – 18yrs)
Primary groups meet on alternate Tuesdays 4.30pm – 7.30pm (ages 6 – 11yrs)
Areas of Interest: Children, families, sport and outdoor activities, youth advice, information and support, youth work.
If you have any special talents or particular interests that could be put to practical use at sessions that would be great. Must enjoy working with young people.
Types of Activity: Sport, games, arts and crafts, cooking and outings.
Additional/Specific Suitability: Those wishing to Volunteer with Primary groups should be at least 16 years of age, whilst those wishing to help at Secondary groups should be over 21 years. Volunteers must be aware of the importance of confidentiality and be willing to undertake basic level training/Criminal Records Bureau (DBS) checks. Volunteers should be able to engage easily with young people and are expected to present a mature, positive role-model. Volunteering with SCAFT could provide an ideal basis to gain experience for further career development in any work fields relating to children and families.

Skills and Qualifications:
Commitment: Part Time, Evenings. Skills in art, craft, creativity, sports/games.
