Job Title: Session Worker
Descriptive:
With a primary task of supporting the Session Leader to deliver our evening youth sessions to Young Carers, Session Workers must be comfortable engaging with children and young people through a variety of activities including physical games or sports, creative arts, craft and cooking. This post is term time only, although additional hours may be available during school holidays to support our organised activity sessions.
Responsible to: Reporting to Service Delivery Manager via Senior Session Worker

St Michaels Church Hall, Sir Walter Raleigh Drive, Rayleigh, SS6 9JB
Purpose of Job:
Principle Aim –
- To provide support to the Senior Session Worker, particularly in respect of the Young Carers Group Sessions.
Principle Activities –
To assist in the following:-
- To attend and assist at Young Carers Group Sessions and Activities and work with the Senior Session Worker and other members of SCAFT staff including Volunteers and Trustees. (This will require evening working).
- Work with the Senior Session Worker to ascertain the needs of Young Carers.
General Activities –
To assist in the following:-
- To assist in providing information and support to Young Carers, experiencing problems with education, bullying, emotional stress etc.
- To assist with access to other services appropriate to Young Carer/Family needs.
- To provide one to one support for Young Carers as agreed, based on the individual needs.
Training and Knowledge –
- To participate in regular training sessions considered necessary. Some training will be mandatory.
- To have knowledge of legislation as follows: Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety, Confidentiality and Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults.
Skills and Abilities –
It is essential to be able to communicate effectively with young people, families, colleagues and with outside agencies.
- In written reports and records.
- Through Training.
Qualifications –
A good all round education is desirable.
Essential to –
- Be able to work on own with support.
- Be able to build good working relationships with a variety of people.
- Be creative.
- Respect the values of SCAFT.
Experience –
- An understanding of Children’s Rights, Disability Carers’ issues, Children’s Act and Equal Opportunities and Safeguarding Policy and Practices.
- Be familiar with Carer’s issues and legislation of Disabilities and Mental Health issues and Welfare Rights.
Other Requirements:
- To be able to travel if required.
- Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service disclosure. (at employers expense)
Salary – This is a zero hours contract payable at minimum wage + holiday pay pro rata.
Each session is 3 hours, and there may be up to 2 sessions per week requiring cover. Although essentially term-time only there may be the opportunity for addition hours during school holidays for daytrips and activities.
